Walter Saul, D.M.A., N.C.T.M.

Music Faculty

Having had two of his compositions performed at Carnegie Hall is only a small part of the long list of Walter Saul’s musical accomplishments which include 14 American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) awards, two Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) Student Composers Awards and several National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC) honors. With over 190 compositions in his catalog, numerous recordings and performances, he brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to FPU students as he teaches piano, theory and composition. And you can’t miss the integration of faith in his classes as he begins each class period with prayer and a recitation by memory of a chapter out of the Bible.

“As a composer, my experience tends to bring opportunities for creative work to students in all of my classes, even Music Appreciation (a GE course). My classes are reasonably rigorous, yet success is attainable by all who take them. I strive to create a safe environment that frees students to share of themselves for the mutual learning of all of us, and I encourage such sharing in class. Hopefully, it also helps students to envision themselves as creative human beings in the image of the Creator.

“In each class I especially want to integrate a student’s faith with his or her learning. I enjoy sharing my adoration of Jesus Christ and interweaving this with the topics at hand for each day’s class. In addition to competence in the subject, I want each student to leave my classes with a deeper love for the Lord and a greater reliance on Him in all dimensions of life.”
