Spenser Chakerian
Since his own dad is a teacher and FPU alumnus, Spenser's college and career choice is close to following in his father's footsteps. He is majoring in biology with a secondary teaching emphasis and plans to be a high school science teacher. Confident he is being well-prepared academically, Spenser appreciates the aspect of integrating his beliefs and faith with what he is learning.
"FPU’s small class sizes, one-on-one learning and hands-on experiences make every penny I’m investing worth it. My mentor encourages us to do internships, research and study abroad programs which give students in-depth, hands-on experiences. In fact, this summer I am going to Costa Rica to study ecology and research how we can preserve national parks. I’ve also been on field trips which are a great addition to class and an opportunity to check stuff out. It’s one thing to read a book or hear about it, but another thing to hold a starfish with 8 or 10 legs in your hand.
"Michael Kunz is my advisor. He is a great resource, role model and leader—not just a teacher. Even more, he is a servant leader. And he is there to help my education. Really all of the professor at FPU are that way. They are interested in my success. Ultimately, I am better prepared for my career—for my life, and that is really what college is all about.”
