Richard Unruh, Ph.D.
Business Faculty
Political Science Faculty
Renowned for years for the academic rigor of his classes, Richard Unruh is also known as mentor and friend to many. It is his goal to not only provide students with a strong foundation of knowledge and experience and help them develop ethical values with which to appraise issues, but he also enjoys developing personal relationships with students, helping to guide and adivse them as they make choices affecting their future and success.
"Typically, on the first day of class, I invite students to join me in a collaborative learning process for the rest of the semester. Each student is challenged to take responsiblity for their learning.
"I consciously endeavor to take students from simply acquiring information and knowledge to engaging in application and analysis, and then engaging in analysis and evaluation. After taking my courses, I want them to have the ability to analyze, synthesize and evaluate information; the ability to communicate more proficiently in oral and written form; and the ability to keep abreast of and better understand politics.
"I enjoy teaching in an environment where I have the freedom to tailor my courses to what I think will be of greatest interest and benefit to students. Second, I enjoy teaching where I can encourage students to examine political issues from a biblical perspective and develop ethical values with which to appraise political behavior and governmental policies. Third, I enjoy teaching where I can develop personal relationships with students and help guide them in the choices they are making about the future."
